The breakfast spread here was impressive but I still give top nods to the Peninsula. Views here do win though, hands down. We packed up and sent our bags to the front desk. As we were walking I tripped on the tiny golf cart road and scrapped my toe which proceeded to bleed until we reached the pool. The waiters were so helpful with cleaning and bandaging me up but I couldn’t help but feel badly the entire time because feet are the least sacred part of the body and it’s taken very seriously here. That’s why you take off shoes before entering homes and temples and it’s very disrespectful to sit with your legs crossed and the bottom of your foot facing someone, especially if it was an image of the royal family.
Man oh man, they take the royal family business very seriously here. Before officially learning about it from one of our guides, I found out by trying to read a Daily Mail article linked from Facebook. A giant green screen comes up, assumedly blocking the site, but it was all in Thai so I couldn’t be sure. After asking Nicole to do some digging it turns out that they posted an article about the royals partying in Europe or something a few years ago and since then they are banned from being accessed from anywhere in the country. We were warned by numerous people that it is an incredibly serious offense to even speak about the royal family in any negative way in public and you would most likely be automatically jailed without a lawyer being able to get you out. This guy just got 30 YEARS in prison for a post he wrote on Facebook!
The pool is stunning and even though the beach isn’t the most glorious, they have hammocks in the water and water shoes you can wear (although Andy claims they’re called booties). We got in some last GoPro footage before sadly packing up for the airport.
The airport is the oddest one ever, mostly outside and looks like an outlet mall in Florida. We had just got our bug spray taken away security because we forgot it was in there and too many ounces before of course being swarmed by bugs at the OUTDOOR gate. We’re at an airport hotel tonight before we begin a very long journey home. Bangkok, Hong Kong, Toronto, JFK. Ambien and movies here we come! Nothing is glamorous about those kind of travel days so this will most likely be my last post. This has been the most incredible vacation to celebrate our marriage and only the first of many more adventures where I research, plan and schedule and Andy takes care of all the people who are incompetent when I feel bad :) Perfect pair! xoxo
