Today we attended a Thai cooking school on an organic farm outside the city. We learned how to cook (and eat) five different dishes. The best pad thai I've had yet is the one I made! All of the dishes were so yummy and my favorites were the coconut milk shrimp soup and the pad thai and the sweet and sour chicken and the mango with sticky rice....okay they were all good! We even learned how to make curry from scratch! Before we went to the farm we stopped at a local market and our instructor taught us how to purchase some necessary items (and also where to buy our own beer to bring to class).
We never ended up laying by the pool here even though it was so beautiful. The weather didn't seem to be the best both days we got home from our excursions and our terrace outside our room was a more private escape. After happy hour we headed out to the authentic muay Thai local boxing stadium. However, after all the positive reviews we had read online none of them mentioned that it burned down...years ago...so the local guard clearly laughed at us when we showed up at the area it should have been located. We headed back to the night market area and made a stop at a bar owned by a Texan, their logo had a guy riding a elephant instead of a bull. We walked through the area with all the go-go bars and it was just sad...and disgusting but definitely a huge part of the culture here. Tomorrow we head to Ko Samui in the afternoon.
