Engagement photos. People either love them or hate them. I personally, loved doing them. We are not fancy and dressed up on a daily basis and our go-to attire weekend attire is jeans. I love that we are able to have professional photos around our apartment that show us in more of a natural state, in our neighborhood, rather than just us all dolled up for our wedding day. Many photographers will also include these pictures in your package, so why not? We didn't send out Save the Dates but they are a great option to use for those too!
My favorite reason for the engagement session was being able to learn Ashley's style of directing, what we were comfortable doing and what we knew wasn't us (basically anything involving leaning in, touching foreheads or gazing into each other's eyes). We also laughed too much, which isn't usually a bad thing, but for the wedding we had to keep it together for some more pics :) It was a great warm-up and test run for our the big day. Ashley already knew what worked for us, what angles we liked and we didn't have to spend any time on the wedding day figuring that out.
We wanted our engagement photos to reflect our style so we wore two different looks, one more casual than the other, but both still in jeans. When choosing your outfits, stick to classic cuts and prints and nothing too trendy. Looking back now I still love the statement necklace I chose but will I love it in 10 years? We'll just have to see. Creating a Pinterest board is a great way to pin outfit ideas to discover the trends you're eyeing.
