Wedding weekends are a whirlwind so choosing to get away on a little trip right after our wedding was the perfect way to end the wedding celebrations. Since we got married in February, we were waiting until my summer vacation for our honeymoon to Thailand. I am so glad we took time in between because it allowed me to focus on wedding planning separately from planning our honeymoon. I'd highly recommend a mini-moon for anyone who is in a similar timeline!
After all the festivities were over, we took off on Sunday afternoon. Our flight was delayed before we got on the plane and for a while once we were on the plane so the weekend wasn't off to the best start. Since we only had a short two nights, this was already eating into our time considerably but after such an incredible weekend we were trying to just enjoy the United lounge and snuck in some extra food too. When we finally arrived in Miami and got settled in to the Marriott Stanton South Beach we headed immediately back out in search of some late dinner and drinks. Being that the hotel is at the southern tip of South Beach on Ocean Drive, we walked north and there were countless options. Since it was so late, a lot of what was open closer to us were the more touristy bars with big drinks and straws but it was late and we went with it! After one mixed drink we went back to beer.
The next morning we started off with breakfast in the lounge at the hotel and then headed out to the pool. When Andy and I travel to a warm location together, we always need to make sure we find a spot with sun and a spot with an umbrella next to each other. He needs the shade and I love the sun so we try to get to the pool/beach early to find what we need. After some morning drinks by the pool we ventured the short walk to Joe's Take Away, the casual, order at the counter version of the fancy Joe's Stone Crab for lunch. Joe's Take Away is the perfect way to enjoy the incredible food of Joe's Stone Crab in a casual atmosphere. We ordered so much food and everything was absolutely delicious!! After finishing up lunch we stopped by Nikki Beach around the corner. This would not usually be our clubby scene but since it was a Monday it was very low key and calm. That night we had a delicious dinner at Michelle Bernstein's Seagrape in the Thompson Hotel which has since sadly closed and the hotel is now a Hyatt property.
The next and last day was spent with a morning by the pool and some shopping around South Beach before we headed back to the tundra of NYC. Miami was in the mid-70s and NYC had a windchill close to zero so it was so hard to go back! The mini-moon was just what we needed after the weekend of wedding craziness ended, we were able to enjoy some time together before going back to the real world.
